Bancroft is surrounded by the countless lakes and hills of the Madawaska Highlands and 30 minutes from the southern tip of Algonquin Provincial Park. Our four season retreat is located in the middle of a vast outdoor playground – perfect for what ever outdoor activity you have been longing for – canoeing on the York River, snowmobiling & 4-wheeling on the Hastings Heritage Trail, golfing at the near-by golf club, x-country skiing, snowshoeing & skating in a winter wonderland and fishing on the countless lakes in the Madawaska Highlands. After an active day outdoors, spend some quality time with friends/family back at our guesthouse.

HIKING & SIGHT SEEING

Hiking and sight seeing at eight Provincial Parks that are within one hour from us: Algonquin P.P., Bon Echo P.P., Egan Chutes P.P., Kawartha Highlands P.P., Lake St. Peter P.P., Matawatchan P.P., Petroglyphs P.P. and Silent Lake P.P.

Other popular hikes are the Eagles Nest Park (Bancroft) and High Falls (Bird’s Creek)

CANOEING, KAYAKING & WHITE WATER RAFTING

We are located in the middle of countless lakes and rivers to enjoy. The most popular activities would be canoeing & kayaking on the York River, the Madawaska River, the near-by lakes (too many to list or count) or enjoy a day of white water paddling on the Madawaska River. 

FISHING

Fishing on the near by lakes (public boat launch on near by lakes: Baptiste, Bay, Weslemkoon, Paudash, Papineau, Chandos, Bark & L’Amable)

ATV & SNOWMOBILE

ATV & snowmobile on the Hastings Heritage Trail with access located less than a minute from us. This is the gateway to the most trail options you will find in all of Ontario. The Ontario Federation of All terrain Vehicles Club (OFATV) have trail maps for you to plan your trip. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) have maps you can purchase and download on your phone.

GOLF
PUBLIC BEACHES

Swimming at public beaches on the following lakes: Diamond, Bay, Paudash, L’Amable, Kamaniskeg, Foster and Papineau.

ARTS & CULTURE

The Village Playhouse Bancroft showcases live theatre, concerts and tiff films through out the year. The Art Gallery of Bancroft is located downtown – just a 5 minute drive from us. For over 30 years, the Bancroft Autumn Studio Tour has showcased local artisans (their work and environment) for the last two weekends in September.

ROCKHOUNDING

The Bancroft area is rich with minerals, gems and fossils. The Rockhound Gemboree happens every year on the first weekend in August. This website has compiled a list of rock collecting sites in Bancroft and surrounding areas.
